The Care-A-Van is a mobile unit that takes services to the people and promotes healthy families and safe children, it is the latest in family resource centers.
History
The Erie County Care-A-Van began as a 1997 LEADS project. Through a grant from the Ohio Children's Trust Fund, the van was delivered in January 1999.
A Community Partnership Since 1999
- 60,534 individuals have received services and information
- 9,083 (1999); 6,613 (2000); 5,951 (2001); 8,398 (2002); 8,971 (2003); 5,904 (2004); 5,099 (2005) ; 3,501 (2006); 3,622 (2007); 3,801 (2008)
- 1,432 various locations in Erie County have welcomed the van and participants
- 36,760 miles were covered by the mobile unit
- 13,705 service hours have been provided to the Community
- 67 agencies participate to provide services

General Information
Access: Counties across the State of Ohio have developed family resource centers that offer universal access and welcome families regardless of income, martial status, race, religion, extent of need or other eligibility criteria.
Services: The Erie County Care-A-Van project can provide services in many neighborhoods and communities. The community family resource center provides agencies the opportunity to take services "on the road". Wellness exams, immunizations, child passenger safety seat checks and blood screenings are some of the services offered.
Funding: The Care-A-Van project has been supported in previous years through the funding efforts of the Erie County Commissioners, the Family and Children First Council, the Erie-Ottawa Mental Health & Recovery Board, the Ohio Children's Trust Fund, the Erie County United Way, the Sandusky-Erie County Community Foundation, the Frost Parker Foundation, the Dorn Foundation, the Mylander Foundation, the Wightman/Wieber Foundation, Erie County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Erie County Health Department and other local entities.
