The Erie County Facilities Department employees possess the full spectrum of skills in all the building trades and custodial services necessary to maintain 26 primary public facilities. Our vehicle maintenance section maintains 190 County-owned vehicles in operational condition meeting the daily needs of the County. The department improves, updates and renovates approximately 500,000 square feet of usable space and offers maintenance services in such areas as heating and air conditioning, computer cabling, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, general maintenance and lawn/landscape presentation. In addition to the many maintenance and grounds keeping requests, additional responsibilities include long-term capital improvements planning (CIP), project management, and 21st. century building systems technology upgrades. "It is our desire to serve Erie County employees and customers with the safest, and best maintained facilities in the state of Ohio."

Major Projects in 2008-2009:

  • Clean, caulk, and seal concrete deck at the Office Building garage.
    • 5-Year reoccurring maintenance plan to insure long term use of garage deck materials.
  • Renovate elevator equipment at the Courthouse.
    • Vintage equipment that had exceeded the life cycle and replacement parts became impossible to locate.
  • Install cameras and monitors throughout levels of the Courthouse as well as outside areas.
    • Added level of security measure for all who must enter this facility.
  • Finalize operational phase of HVAC controls at jail.
    • The operational readiness of the DDC HVAC controls has brought the facility to an energy efficient level 24/7.
  • Paint interior walls on detention side of jail.
    • First complete painting of walls since jail became operational.
  • Remodel Health Department Director's Administration area.
    • Enhanced the overall operation of office space.
  • Job & Family Services ADA upgrades for accessibility.
    • ADA addressed items were changed to meet code enhancing access for customers and employees.
  • Modify clock controls in Courthouse clock.
    • Increased the durability to function under heavy wind loads and extreme weather conditions.
