Trout Fishing Lottery At Castalia Cold Creek

Again this year a half-mile section of the Cold Creek that flows through the Castalia State Fish Hatchery in Erie County will be open to a limited number of anglers that are chosen in a lottery drawing. They will get to ply their skills between March 29 and Oct. 29. Anglers interested in fishing the stream must submit an application and a non-refundable $5 fee by Jan. 31, 2010. A random drawing will be held in early March; successful applicants will be notified by mail of their fishing dates.

Applications can be obtained by calling 1-800-WILDLIFE, or apply online at the ODNR Division of Wildlife website a reduced $3 charge. Only one submission is allowed per person. There will a one season for adults (March 29 through June 3 and Aug. 23 through Oct. 29) and another season for youths age 16 and under (June 7 through Aug. 20). The daily bag limit will be five trout per angler.
